SPACIOUS — LIGHT — CONNECTED — BREATH — VITALITY
I work with you as a whole person, which means that you may come with a physical problem that has a mental, emotional or spiritual cause. Equally you may come with an emotional issue which has become ingrained in how you hold your body and how you breathe. How you think and feel shapes your physical body, and this makes the physical touch of Shiatsu a very powerful way of working with your body, mind and soul.
I practice in Bath, my clients come for Shiatsu treatment from all over the Southwest, Bristol, Somerset, Frome, Wells, Chippenham, Bradford-on-Avon, Trowbridge and the rest of Wiltshire.
These are some of the reasons that people come to see me:
Initially I use very gentle touch to feel into the area. Sometimes postural realignment is needed, sometimes an emotional letting go. I listen to your body and use appropriate touch to meet the pain and release it.
With many people there is an emotional or mental reason for the tension, and the Shiatsu is a space to explore and come to understand why the pain is there. With other people it can be to do with working conditions (working at a keyboard, a lot of time driving) and we look at ways to make conditions less stressful for the body. And for others it may be that they do a lot of physical work and want a strong stretch and work over.
I am very interested in women’s work and Shiatsu can be very effective in these areas; from back pain in pregnancy to coming to terms with menopause. For menstruating women I also look at how your cycle can enrich daily life.
Shiatsu can be a great support after a diagnosis of cancer. Past clients have often said that they felt like a whole person again and that it helped them to make friends with their body. When lymph glands are removed in some cancer surgery the areas that they drain can become very uncomfortable – Shiatsu is very effective at helping these areas to drain.
The treatment is a space to breathe and be. It can help you to find the causes of your pain, to have a different view, to express your feelings. It can simply and profoundly be a space to be held.
In the Shiatsu I find the areas that feel weak or low or tired and hold them, and I encourage other parts that are full or tense to release so that more energy is available to you. I also support you in discovering the reasons for feeling this way. We may talk about practical changes that you can make in your lifestyle.
If you have a particular block in your life that you want to explore further then ongoing Shiatsu can be a powerful transformational experience. I hold the space and afterwards we can talk about what we both felt.
The treatment is an exploration of what is behind the symptom, from a physical cause to an emotional one. Each person is unique and things like deeper breathing, physical activity, lessening stress, looking at eating habits and working with emotional blocks may be relevant.
Shiatsu can be a healing boost after an operation (the treatment can be very gentle and I avoid directly touching the wound site). It is also good for recovering from shock to the body and mind, increasing energy levels and strengthening the immune system.
I look at the energetic body picture and explore what is behind the outward show on the skin. Food triggers, stress, breathing problems and unexpressed grief are often a factor.
